History of liposuction

Modern liposuction was developed in the late 1970s by French surgeons Yves-Gerard Illouz and Pierre Fournier, who pioneered the blunt-cannula suction technique. Refinements in the decades since — tumescent anaesthesia, ultrasound-assisted (PAL) and high-definition liposuction — have made the procedure dramatically safer, more comfortable and more precise than its early forms.
